Many people ask us for a basic description of the Wright Redux Association 1903 Wright Flyer project and what it is designed to do. The following is a summary of what the project is all about.
Who?
  • The Wright Redux Association (WRA), Glen Ellyn, Illinois
  • The Museum of Science and Industry Chicago (MSI), Chicago, Illinois
  • What?
  • This group will cooperate in the construction and flying of a replica of the 1903 Wright Flyer.
  • When?
  • Building is set to start immediately in Glen Ellyn, using the same time frame employed by the Wrights in 1903 (Approximately 1 year)…Objective is to build and fly the machine for the 100th anniversary on December 17, 2003.
  • Where?
  • The plane is being built in Glen Ellyn at Miller Woodworking.
  • The initial flying will take place in DuPage County.
  • The official observance flight will take place on the lawn of the MSI, December 17, 2003.
  • Why?
  • This project is designed to honor the 100th anniversary of the first heavier-than-air, controlled flight.
  • How?
  • WRA, with support & resources of the MSI and Packer Engineering, is raising private funds to build and fly the 1903 Wright Flyer.
  • Once flown, the machine will be hung in the MSI Great Hall.
